The Opportunity:
Dickinson Financial Corporation and its affiliated banks—Academy Bank, N.A. and Armed Forces Bank, N.A.—rely on experienced commercial banking professionals to positively impact economic development in our communities and to reach our growth objectives. The Kansas City Commercial Managing Director’s primary role will be to (1) develop and lead a team of Commercial Banking associates to grow the entire region and/or vertical and (2) develop, grow, and manage commercial business relationships in the region and/or vertical of expertise, including offering bank products such as deposit products and treasury management services to support a relationship-based approach. This important position leads a team of Commercial Bankers and provides comprehensive management of existing customer relationships and solicitation of new business opportunities with support from the team. Successful Managing Directors of Commercial Banking are vigilant about attracting, developing, and retaining Commercial Banking talent to ensure future growth and profitability, including facilitating relationships between established clients and other bankers for a strong succession plan.
Key Responsibilities:
· Attracts, retains, and develops Commercial Banking talent to ensure future growth and profitability with a keen focus on a strong succession plan within region or vertical of expertise. Develops sales strategy and leads cadence of accountability for team of Commercial Bankers to ensure each is meeting his/her individual production and service goals.
· Directly supervises Commercial Bankers, Portfolio Managers, and Commercial Banking support associates including hiring, performance management, and regular communication of organization strategies and initiatives.
· Grows a self-sourced portfolio of commercial loans. Minimum annual targets will vary based on the banker’s specialty (e.g. 1-to-4, CRE, C&I or general) and the team engaged to support the Managing Director, with minimum targets for Managing Directors of Commercial Banking generally ranging from $18MM to $25MM. In addition to growth, Managing Directors are responsible for maintaining an existing portfolio while usually relying on other team members to facilitate newly originated loans. Responsible for ensuring that clients’ entire banking relationship needs are met by making introductions to our experts in private banking, treasury management, deposit products and other applicable bank products while also introducing team of Commercial Bankers and Executive Management to deepen organization relationships.
· Develops and facilitates others in becoming the primary relationship manager for clients within portfolio with the goal of deepening the client relationship through diverse contacts. Responsible for ensuring all client contact on portfolio provides excellent client service with a growth mindset. Manages portfolio to sound credit quality, overall portfolio return, client retention, and relationship banking.
· Solicits, analyzes, structures, risk rates, presents for approval, negotiates, and coordinates the documentation of commercial loan requests with assistance from other commercial bankers, support colleagues, and the credit department.
· Manages pipeline reporting and calling program using Salesforce with the support of commercial banking associates.
· Understands, embodies, communicates, and instills corporate initiatives and vision, including the Company’s core Pillar Values and ensures an inclusive workplace. Actively leads team according to core Pillar Values.
· Other ad hoc duties as assigned.
· Regular attendance is required, working at the worksite or at outside sales activities during regular business hours and/or assigned hours.
Key Qualifications for Success:
· Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or business administration required; MBA or other related graduate degree preferred.
· Ten-plus years of related commercial lending or portfolio management experience with expert ability to review, analyze, structure, risk rate, negotiate, and document new loans.
· Proven track record of relationship-based business development with sustained portfolio growth.
· Seven-plus years of management experience with proven track record of developing and retaining a strong team.
· Strong credit analysis skills are required.
· Proficient use of standard computer/software programs including but not limited to Microsoft Word, Excel, Salesforce, Power Point, Internet, Moody’s Financial Spreads, etc.
· Must be goal-oriented, self-disciplined, self-motivated, and client-focused with excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, including a demonstrated ability to communicate complex data and structural components to a variety of people and work in a team-building environment.
Physical Requirements:
The work environment is typical of standard office and banking settings. The position is medium work, exerting up to 35 pounds of force occasionally. Worker sits approximately 50-70 percent of the time, including for client meetings, travel, and computer work, but worker will frequently stand or walk throughout different areas of the office and when commuting from one location to another. Standing and walking may be required for sustained periods of time for moving from one work site to another both inside and outside the office. Frequent driving for visits to clients, prospective clients, events, and project locations. Reaching may be required involving extending arms in any direction. Office equipment, such as a computer and telephone will be used, requiring the use of hands and fingers to manipulate a keyboard or keypad. Visual ability to read a computer screen or written documents and to drive is necessary. Speaking ability to express or exchange ideas; impart oral information to clients, staff, or to the public; or convey detailed or important spoken instructions by means of the spoken word is required. Hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication.
