In our digital, click-to-connect world, many times actual human connection takes a back seat. Who has time to make an actual connection, let alone keep a connection, right?
In the recruiting, coaching and outplacement business, these connections are essential. It’s our calling to bring people together, help keep them together, or assist in transition if the connection is no longer viable.
We talk with clients and candidates all the time. But, more importantly, we listen. As we assist our quality clients, we come into contact with countless qualified and high-potential people across various industries.
We recently completed a search for a long-standing, valued client with a candidate we first had contact with four years ago! We’d presented this candidate on a couple of different engagements – none that worked out for reasons including location, timing, culture etc. But this is a quality candidate and we were confident that at some point he would, and should, find a spot with one of our clients.
So, Cornerstone-Kansas City kept in touch. When something significant was happening for the candidate like a move, promotion, etc. he would drop us a quick note to keep us up-to-date. If we had an engagement that made sense to reach out and discuss, whether to source for referrals or gain his insight, he was always available and willing to help. This is how a quality partnership is supposed to work.
Some people have said, with the advent of social media, automation etc., that recruiting as we know it is dead or dying. I couldn’t disagree more and the above is just one of many examples as to why, in today’s environment, the HUMAN element of human Resources is essential.
Digitization should simply assist in streamlining and extending reach for more face-to-face access to candidates and clients who aren’t local. It has become the modern day “handshake”. But it doesn’t “replace” anything – it’s simply a group of tools that enhances our human process.
A computer program wouldn’t have known the intangibles of the candidate we recently placed or the unique needs of our client. There would have been no “eyes to keep open” or “ears to the ground”.
A company is much more than its website; a candidate is much more than a resume.
To any candidates we place or work with, this is why we work hard at getting to know you beyond what your resume tells us. We ask you questions about your life outside of work…interests, hobbies, goals, family, etc.
To our clients, this is why our Cornerstone-Kansas City team reaches out to you on occasion to touch base, see how things are going and to stay abreast of what you see in your company’s future.
Connection is our calling. And we answer that call – in person.
