“I wish I had this for my team at my last organization. It would have explained so much and helped me be a better leader!” These were my thoughts after taking the Six Types of Working Genius assessment.
At different points throughout my career, I could never fully wrap my arms around why some days I left work drained, while other days I left work on cloud nine.
Nearly four years ago, I discovered the Working Genius during a career transition of my own. At the time, I was listening to Patrick Lencioni and his “At The Table” podcast when the Table Group launched Working Genius. Intrigued, I bought the online assessment and completed it in 10 minutes.
What is Working Genius? Working Genius helps you understand what work energizes you most, what work drains you most, how you are wired to work and where you thrive and are most productive and fulfilled.
While it does not tell you how to do your job, what job to take or if you will be successful in your job, Working Genius is all about self awareness and understanding your God-given gifts to contribute to the world of work. When aligned, you are more joyful, productive and fulfilled in your work.
Perhaps the biggest testament is how we use the model as a team. We refer to Working Genius in almost everything we do, from daily interactions, new/existing projects, meeting types and internal hiring decisions. Simply, we work better together when we know each other better.

We have also grown with our client companies as certified facilitators of Working Genius. We integrate Working Genius within our executive recruiting process and facilitate as part of strategic planning sessions, leadership workshops and team builders.
Here is what some of our clients have said about their experience:
- “Working Genius led to better self-knowledge and appreciation of team members’ strengths and less frustration with each other. What started with our executive team has since expanded across the organization.” – CEO & Chairman (Software client)
- “I use Working Genius to gain insights into my colleagues and adapt my approach. It helps me as a leader adjust expectations and align work with individual strengths, not just my preferences. Our organization now utilizes the tool as part of its hiring to match roles with people’s innate strengths.” – President (Nonprofit client)
- “Working Genius seemed to have more practical use and wasn’t so ‘fluffy’. We wanted an output that would actually help the HR leaders with team management; ensuring we’re assigning work and projects in the most effective and productive way to align with team interests and strengths.” – Sr. Director of HRBP & Talent Management (Healthcare client)
- “Our industry has been struggling and our company went through a recent merger. This tool was chosen as part of a management review session. We now use Working Genius to better build teams and increase productivity across the organization.” – Director of Learning & Development (Agriculture Equipment client)
If you are looking for a New Year’s Resolution that won’t fade fast, the Working Genius might be the solution that lasts all year long for your team.
