Executive Recruiting A Year in the Jars

A Year in the Jars

November 12, 2025 by Dan Heiman

If you have ever walked into the Cornerstone office, you might notice four glass jars sitting on the conference table. Each jar is labeled with one of our four core values: Integrity, Optimism, Stewardship, and Service. Each month, those jars slowly fill up with handwritten notes from our team, little slips of paper capturing moments that made someone say, “Hey, that was a great example of who we are.” At our monthly meetings, we highlight individuals for these moments, celebrating the ways they exemplified one of our four pillars over the past month.

It started as a small idea. We wanted a way to spotlight one another in a way that felt personal, not a KPI or performance review, but a genuine “shout-out” for the things that often go unseen. Maybe someone went above and beyond for a client. Maybe they jumped in to help with a tough search. Maybe they lifted the team’s spirits on a challenging day.

Whatever the reason, the moment gets written down, dropped in a jar, and celebrated. Over time, the jars have come to hold the story of our year, a collection of moments that show who we are as a team.

Now, at the end of 2025, they are full, packed with reminders of what this year has been about. Hundreds of notes. Words of encouragement. Quick “thank yous” scribbled in pen. Every slip tells a story of someone showing up with optimism when things got hard, leading with integrity when no one was watching, serving clients with genuine care, or practicing stewardship by investing in one another’s success.

Culture can feel like an abstract idea, values printed on a wall or tucked into a mission statement. For us, it is much more tangible. It is a group of people coming together, reflecting on the year, celebrating one another, and showing up for each other in meaningful ways, month after month.

So as the year winds down, we are taking a moment to look at these jars with a lot of gratitude. They remind us that culture is not built in a single meeting or retreat. It is built one note, one act of service, one shout-out at a time.

Here is to a year of Integrity, Optimism, Stewardship, and Service, and to the people who made those words come alive, every single day.
